This Buyer's Journey
I was working for Highspec Properties when these buyers were referred to me. They reached out after months of trying to secure a home on their own and feeling like they were getting nowhere. As first-home buyers, they were watching prices rise rapidly while juggling full-time work, raising a young child, and trying to squeeze in property inspections — all while living in a rental in Byron Bay that could change at any moment.
By the time they contacted me, they were completely worn down by the process. There was very little on the market, properties were selling fast, and competition was relentless. They felt like they were constantly behind — missing out on homes, stretching emotionally and financially, and struggling to keep up.
They’d almost given up hope when they were referred to me as a local Buyers Agent in Ocean Shores and the surrounding areas. They got in touch for a chat to find out whether I could help them find something — anything — that felt achievable. At that stage, they weren’t sure a property that suited their needs even existed within their budget or their desired locations.
How I helped find the perfect home
Once I understood their brief, I got straight to work — calling agents, chasing leads, and exploring every possible avenue. It turned out my clients were right: there were very few properties available, especially in Byron Bay, Lennox head, Mullumbimby and Ocean Shores which were their preffered suburbs. The market was frantic and fierce, competitive and fast-moving. Off-market opportunities were almost non-existent, and properties were selling before buyers even had the chance to step through the door. It was a fast paced, rapid COVID-era market.
Even so, I was able to uncover oppotunities for them and their young family. I previewed multiple homes on their behalf and, against the odds, two strong contenders emerged. One of those homes became the focus of our negotiations — and we were well into that process — when, at the last possible moment, an unexpected off-market opportunity came across my desk.
Something told me this was the one. Despite being close to signing on the other property, I knew we had to move fast. I brought it to my clients right away, and as soon as we walked through the door, I could see their excitement. It ticked every box — and more.
At the 11th hour, we had not just one, but two strong options on the table. In the end, we secured the property that felt like their true “dream home”. In a market where similar homes were selling well above their budget, this was a rare and timely opportunity. Had it gone to the open market, it likely would’ve been out of reach. The result was not just a great match — but a brilliant outcome in terms of value, timing, and the determination it took to uncover it.
