Nestled along the picturesque coastline of New South Wales, Brunswick Heads has been my family’s cherished weekend retreat since our first visit in 2009. Back then, it was a sleepy seaside village, seemingly untouched by time. Over the years, while it has gained some attention, it still retains that unspoiled charm that makes it feel like our little secret.
One of our favourite traditions is jumping off the iconic bridge at high tide—a thrilling plunge into the crystal-clear waters below. Afterwards, we often stroll along the breakwall, taking in the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Dinner at Trouble San or a burger at The Bruns Hotel has become a family staple, and no visit is complete without a trip to Bernardi’s Gelato and Espresso Bar. Walking through the park, with its towering Norfolk pines and vibrant community atmosphere, always brings a sense of peace and belonging.
The Brunswick River is the town's lifeblood, offering sandy shores and pristine waters that beckon swimmers, kayakers, and paddleboarders alike. Venturing up Marshall’s Creek feels like stepping into another world; its serene, tropical ambience often makes us feel like we’ve been transported to Fiji! We’ve been fortunate to spot schools of mullet, graceful stingrays gliding beneath the surface, and even the occasional lobster hiding under the steps. It’s these magical encounters that make each visit special.
Torakina Beach, with its calm, sheltered waters, is a family favourite. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing swim, especially for those with younger children. The beach’s unique position, nestled between the river and the sea, offers a tranquil setting that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Why Brunswick Heads is So Desirable
It’s no surprise that Brunswick Heads has become such a desirable place to live. The town offers the perfect blend of a relaxed coastal lifestyle while remaining accessible and unspoiled. The community is tight-knit, and properties here are tightly held, with very few changing hands each year. According to the 2021 Census, the population of Brunswick Heads was 1,737, with a median age of 50-59 years. The median house price is around $2 million, reflecting desirability and the limited availability of homes (source: Property Value)

As a Buyers Agent in Brunswick Heads, I am privileged to help clients navigate this competitive and unique market. Recently, I had the pleasure of touring one of Brunswick Heads’ most iconic properties, "Seadog". It’s full of character and history, and I’ve put together a reel on Instagram showcasing some of my favourite details from this home—you can watch it here.

Ocean Shores: A More Accessible Alternative
While Brunswick Heads remains one of the most sought-after coastal towns in NSW, nearby Ocean Shores, just a few kilometres away, has seen a significant increase in demand. This is likely due to its proximity to Brunswick Heads while offering homes at a far more accessible price point. The median price for a three-bedroom house in Ocean Shores is approximately $1,140,000, making it a fantastic alternative for those wanting a slice of the Northern Rivers lifestyle without the Brunswick Heads price tag.
