In 2016, after years of visiting and falling in love with the area, we made the move from the UK. We spent our first few months near Brunswick Heads before buying a property in Mullumbimby. Brunswick Heads is such a popular destination, and I feel incredibly lucky to be helping people buy their dream homes here. As an expert Brunswick Heads Buyers Agent, I help my clients see the best homes available in this beautiful coastal village. When I’m not busy assisting clients, I love exploring the local gems that make Brunswick Heads so desirable—a tightly held community with low property turnover that, once you visit, you'll understand exactly why. If you’re thinking about relocating to the Byron Shire or buying a home in Brunswick Heads, there’s no better way to get a feel for this charming seaside town than spending a full day soaking up everything it has to offer. Nestled beside the ocean and the river, and only a short drive from Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads is the kind of place that feels like you’ve stepped back in time—in the best way. It’s the old-school beach holiday you remember as a kid, with just the right amount of modern flair: excellent coffee, great food, and a community spirit that’s second to none.

How to start your day in Bruns

Start your day with a riverside coffee at , Old Maids, or Footbridge Café, where locals gather and the river sparkles just metres away. Once the caffeine’s kicked in, it’s time to embrace the natural beauty Brunswick is known for.

Hire a kayak or stand-up paddle board from Brunswick Buccaneers, and glide across the crystal-clear waters of the Brunswick River. If you’re after a bit more adventure, hire a tinny and cruise up Marshall’s Creek, a peaceful, winding waterway lined with mangroves and wildlife—a perfect way to explore the quieter corners of the river.

Feeling a little brave? At high tide, you’ll likely see a few locals jumping off the footbridge into the lagoon-like water below. It’s a long-standing Brunswick tradition—the kind of thing you’d expect in the blue lagoons of Fiji—but maybe just enjoy it from the sidelines. Book in a trip to go whale watching and you wont be disappointed- you can see a video of Brunswick heads whale watching here.

Before lunch, take the kids on the Brunswick Heads Fairy Trail, a sweet and imaginative walk through the village where hidden fairy doors and tiny treasures are tucked into the nooks of trees and buildings. It’s one of those small-town experiences that truly captures the heart of Brunswick Heads.

If its the weekend, wander through the Saturday or Sunday markets. These vibrant markets are a family favorite, offering everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts.

When you’ve had your fill of market magic, browse some of my favourite boutique shops like Lazy Bones and Affends. I always find something unique that perfectly captures the laid-back, creative spirit of Brunswick Heads. Don’t miss a visit to Re sould Mid century and vintage furniture and collectible shop for a touch of vintage charm. Midday: Classic Eats & Coastal Walks

When lunchtime rolls around, keep it simple and delicious. Grab fresh Sushi or a bento box from street sushi and eat under the pine trees by the river, or treat the family to ice cream from In the Pink—a local favourite.

Once everyone’s recharged, walk the loop track around Torakina Park, then rest your feet on Torakina Beach at high tide. This protected bay is perfect for little ones and feels almost hidden away from the world.

Later, walk the break wall that stretches out to sea. It’s a local ritual to spot dolphins playing in the waves at sunset—pure magic and a reminder of just how special this place is. If you’re keen for more exploring, cross the footbridge to the surf club and stretch your legs on Brunswick’s main beach, one of the most stunning stretches of coastline in the region.
